Get Your Minority Owned Business Certified with MBE Certification

With the Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) Certification, your company has a greater chance of obtaining contracts. This is how you become certified.

Numerous governmental and commercial initiatives have been put in place to support minority-owned firms, including special loans, business advice, management training, and chances to compete for government, state, and private sector contracts. Numerous private enterprises have set their objectives to do so, and many government agencies have requirements that a specific proportion of contracts be given to minority-owned businesses. Continue reading for additional details if you're applying for an MBE application.

Why Certify Your Business as Minority-Owned?

You must obtain official certification as a Minority-Owned Business or Minority Business Enterprise to participate in these programs (MBE). The government and private companies can verify your legitimacy via certification, ensuring that you are who you claim to be and that your business is truly eligible for the benefits it can provide. Depending on whether you want to work with government programs or the business world, there are various sorts of MBE applications.

MBE application from the federal government

A program for MBE application particularly designed by the U.S. Small Business Administration to help minority- and economically disadvantaged-owned firms exists. The 8(a) Business Development Program assists these businesses in submitting bids for government contracts.

According to the SBA, a business qualifies as minority-owned if at least 51% of its owners and managers are from one of the following four racial or ethnic groups: African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Native Americans. You must also be a citizen of the United States to be eligible for 8(a) status.

The SBA will look at your past performance to see whether you have the potential to succeed. Before applying, you must have been in the company for at least two years and provide income tax returns that detail your earnings. (This condition may be avoided if you meet some additional criteria.)

Spend a little time reading through the SBA's materials to learn more about the 8(a) program before you apply. Utilize the evaluation tool to round out your application and get a sense of your eligibility. You can submit an online MBE application if the 8(a) program seems like a suitable fit for you. There isn't a cost.

Similar rules exist for women-owned firms, which offer many of the same advantages as MBEs. Several federal and state entities offer certifications for women-owned enterprises. Please get in touch with us if you want to know more about MBE application or women-owned business certification.
